The minutes were approved.
2a. Matters arising
The secretary had contacted Ian MacFadyen CEC in regard to further
developments on the current Christmas decorations and possible
funding for future years. IMacF had no further news to give
the GSA.
BS – requested if no substitute material had been sourced,
could an illuminated motif be put on the pole. VO’B will
meet with IMacF to discuss this and ongoing Christmas decorations.
It was confirmed George Street Christmas Lights will switch
on November 22nd, Standard Life Investments will hold an informal
reception that evening.

5. TIE
A detailed plan showing tram utility works and traffic management
was sent to GSA, The map is too big to scan and send to members,
the accompanying detailed letter will be sent to all members,
any objections to be sent to council traffic department as detailed.
BS queried possibility of inviting TIE to a GSA council meeting
to discuss effects on George Street,
MT suggested inviting a representative from Lothian Buses also
to discuss rerouting of buses and siting of bus stops along
George Street. MT further mentioned that rerouting of buses
along Queen Street would cause too much pollution.
VO’B requested committee members to contact him or the
secretary with a list of key questions for TIE and Lothian Buses.
6. ECCM
HO’H – St Andrew Square progress is ahead of schedule,
Opening event will be February 2008, Coffee Republic will run
the pavilion.
Extra funding has been received from Edinburgh World Heritage
to refurbish the monument.
BS – queried if EWH had sufficient funds to refurbish
George Street statues, DS to investigate.
Edinburgh Farmers Market now has Guinness World Record for
biggest bowl of porridge
IB, Castle Street still has ongoing parking problems; HO’H
CEC has applied for parking orders which should alleviate the
problem.
A French Christmas Market will open on November 22nd same date
as Christmas light switch on.
7. LBP Crime Statistics

8. Planning Applications
IW produced the latest planning applications, no major applications
received. GSA welcomes, Brooks Brothers, Hardy Amies, and Cath
Kidston to George Street. The erection of statue of James Clark
Maxwell was granted planning permission, this being funded by
Royal Society of Edinburgh. MT, provided invitations to The
Cockburn Association lecture, speaker being Sandy Stoddart sculptor
of the statue.
9. Correspondence
n invitation from EWH to an event from professor Herb Stovel
and expert in the conservation field, it was agreed to forward
this to members.
10. AOB
Assembly Rooms presentation
Further to the AGM where more committee members were sought,
Peter Heggie, Brooks Brothers volunteered to join the committee,
this was agreed by the other office bearers, VO’B to contact

The chairman closed the meeting with thanks to Northern Lighthouse
Board for use of their premises.
