CITY CENTRE NEIGHBOURSHIP
PARTNERSHIP
BACKGROUND
Council approved formation
of 12 Neighbourhood Partnerships across the city in 2007.
The City Centre has its own Partnership whose boundaries correspond
to those of Ward 11.
This area takes in the New Town, Old
Town, West End, and a part of Tollcross.
The Partnership is comprised of elected members, community councillors,
and service stakeholders such as the Council, Police, NHS Lothian,
and voluntary sector.
Supporting the Partnership will be thematic sub groups concentrating
on Business, Clean Green Safe and Healthy, Planning Performance
Communication, and Community Consultation and they will bring
issue to the Partnership for decisions to be taken
Why the City Centre Partnership?
The community planning rationale behind the formation of the Partnership
is that of working with local communities to identify and solve
problems, share resources and contribute to the wider interests
of the city centre. It is about engaging local stakeholders in
decisions made about service provision that directly affects them
and focussing more on local priorities in order to improve services
and increase accountability. It is about devolving decision-making
more to local level and a shift away from centralised municipalism.
The city centre is completely unique in the issues it faces being
the economic, tourist, and entertainment hub of the city and requires
its own dedicated Partnership
What will they do?
Produce a community plan by Summer 2008 drawn up following extensive
consultation with local stakeholders. This plan will identify
and prioritise city centre issues/objectives that the Partnership
will see are delivered. An annual report will be produced to monitor
performance targets. The community plan will be an evolving document
that will change through time as some issues are resolved and
new ones arise.
