During the Christmas period they operate between 08:30 and 17:30

Motorcycle Bays and Disabled parking bays are also frequently spaced along the length of George Street.

  BUSES   TRAINS

Edinburgh's main Bus Terminal is situated near St. Andrew Square. St. James Bus Station provides links to all of the UK's major cities.

Lothian Buses Network
provide a regular local bus network, many of which cross and travese along George Street. see maps

Day tickets are available which allows you to hop on and off buses all day long.

Night Buses
Lothian Buses provide a limited night bus service from 00:15am until 04:15

Airport Shuttle Bus
Travels regularly to and from Edinburgh Airport, can be boarded from Princes Street.

Edinburgh Bus Tours
Guided Tours of Edinburgh's Old and New Towns on an open-topped bus.

Art Gallery Shuttle Bus
Provides free transportation between The Royal Scottish Academy & The National Gallery of Scotland on the mound to Edinburgh Gallery of Modern Art & the Dean Gallery.

George Street is conveniently situated between both of Edinburgh's Train Stations. The closest being Edinburgh Waverley at the east end of Princes Street. The other Haymarket Station, is situated at the west end see maps

AIR
Edinburgh International Airport is located west of the city centre.

If travelling by car, join the
A8 from the city bypass and proceed towards Glasgow. From the North and West you should join the A8 at the Newbridge roundabout and proceed towards Edinburgh.

TAXIS

There are hundreds of taxis in Edinburgh and several taxi ranks on and around George Street. see maps

Edinburgh Taxis are mainly black hackney cabs similiar to London's famous black cabs, although many these days can often be seen sporting full colour advertising. They can accommodate up to 5 passengers and can support wheelchair users.

The busiest times for Edinburgh taxis is between closing times of the cities bars and nightclubs between 11pm and 4am when they can be hard to get hold of. A raised hand can usually hail a passing taxi, although if there is a yellow light on in the passenger side it means it is already occupied or on a call.

  SMOKING   SOCIALISING
Scotland has introduced a No Smoking ban in all public areas including all bars, restaurants, shops, taxis and work places. here are numerous bars, nightclubs and restaurants on and around George Street, many of which are open until 3am.
  LITTER   FOREIGN CURRENCY EXCHANGE

It is an offence to drop litter in Scotland. Environmental Wardens can issue fines of £50 to anyone seen dropping litter in the street, including cigarette ends. Most Litter bins in the city now have metal 'stubbing out disks' on top to extinguish and dispose of cigarettes.

Please dispose of all litter responsibly and help keep Edinburgh beautiful.

George Street is Edinburgh's Financial district, where major Banks, Building Societies & other financial institutions are located.

Usual Bank opening hours are between
9:15am and 4:45pm Monday to Friday with some branches opening on Saturdays.
